User Interview - Aries1
I met Sandi a while ago in #Irchelp she is extremely down to earth and a well known and respected dalnet user, mainly noted for her positive attitude, her work and dedication to helping others.
‹Angelwink› What is your name/nickname(s) please?
‹Aries› Sandi (name), I use both Aries1 and Trixie (nicknames)
‹Angelwink› What do you do in life?
‹Aries› I've been home raising my two kids for the past 10 ( yes 10 !) years, and have just gone back to work 3days a week.
‹Angelwink› In a few words could you describe your personality please? :)
‹Aries› oh, um.. well I'm a helpful kind of person, both on IRC and in real life. I think I'm a good listener, uh, I love to cook and I'm sure I was born to shop *lol* I take things as they come and try to enjoy life
‹Angelwink› How were you first introduced to DALnet? what was your first impression of the server?
‹Aries› I was first introduced to DALnet by my husband, he's a real computer nut. He'd sit on the computer for hours and hours and I could never understand it. One day he sat me down and showed me how to "chat on IRC" , after that it would be a race to see who'd get to the puter first, then we'd fight over who got to use the PC on what night *lol*
‹Angelwink› How long have you been on DALnet for?
‹Aries› Too too long ! I started in late 1995 and have been addicted ever since :O)
‹Angelwink› Throughout the years you've been on DALnet did you actually meet any of the friends you've made?
‹Aries› yes I have met a few, most have lived near my area. One was a friend I met on here the first few months I was on DALnet, she drove up to meet me from South Carolina and tho she doesn't IRC much anymore we still keep in touch.
‹Angelwink› I understand you're part of a help channel #Irchelp, how did you happen to be there, when was it, and what are your main duties?
‹Aries› I've always been around in help channels, I enjoy helping people when I can, and it's also a great place to learn new things as well. I started visiting #IRChelp back in 1999 and I just found the staff to be so extremely friendly and helpful, they're a great group of people. Recently I was appointed as channel leader and liaison for the Help Committee.
‹Angelwink› What are the most akward situations you had to deal with on IH?
‹Aries› So far I guess I've been quite lucky, I'm only new to the position and really I haven't been confronted just yet with anything I'd call awkward.
‹Angelwink› What are the positive and negative things about this network?
‹Aries› well I think we're very fortunate to have the staff, support and type of services that the other networks can only dream of. Dalnet has grown so much, things change all the time and it's nice to be a part of that both as a user and being able to help others as well. Hmm negative, well we all whine about splits and such, it's just part of IRC, no need to complain really, I think the positive things out-weigh the negatives by far :)
‹Angelwink› With all the changes that have been happening over the years, what do you think have been improved and what has become worse?
‹Aries› Services wise, I think some of the most recent changes have been some of the best, the SENDPASS option I think is just wonderful. I also think the +R mode for your nick was a great idea for those trying to avoid alot of the spam, I can't say that I've noticed anything that's deteriorated over the years at all, all I've seen is improvement. People wise, everyone has a computer now and that's not always a good thing. Sure there's alot of very nice people out there to chat with, but there's also just as many out there up to no good, so computer user's need to be more educated and be much more aware of what is out there.

‹Aries› I'd like to say thank you for asking me to this interview, it hardly hurt at all *lol* And I'd like to say thank you to everyone out there who has helped me, taught me something new or just made me smile *hugthz*
