What If?
The world we inhabit today is the product of lots of pivotal events in history. The road of time has many forks and will continue to twist and turn to shape the societies of the future. We take for granted the way things are today, but what if our history had taken different directions at some of those forks? What if some of the pivotal pieces of history we remember had happened just that little bit differently?
Each month we'll be looking at a famous piece of history and going around the network asking people what they think would it would be like today if something different had happened. This month we ask...
NB: In this month's 'What If?' - names have been removed from comments as it is an emotive subject and we believe people should be able to give their thoughts without fear of backlash
What if the state of Israel had not been created?
Comment One:
I must say Emma (sorry "the team" lol) has chosen a thorny q here, but according to some strange reading I've been doing lately, seems it was prophecied in the Bible all along that this state would be created, which negates the point of asking such a Q, but to play along anyway...I'd guess the world would have to find something else to worry about, and the powers that be, in the west, would eventually raise arms against the muslims (or the other way around lol) and it would all end in the good winning over evil..hurraaah and people live in peace forever..or at least until the day of judgment? Who knows, we should just do our best while here. and just in case somebody out there is wondering where the "lol"s come from, it's a die-hard habit...lol
Comment Two:
What would things be like now, if Israel had not been 'created'? Well, for one, the Jews would still be scattered about the world. Each country would have most likely taken measures to deport them to neighboring countries or to the Middle East, most likely bringing about another World War or even bringing about a rehash of WWII. In all likelihood, Israel would have either been created by the Jews as a place of refuge or by her enemies as a way of ridding themselves of these so-called 'pests'
Comment Three:
I think there'd be a Jewish homeland in northern Africa, around modern-day N'Djamena. The Jews have just as much claim as a homeland there than they do in Palestine. We wouldn't have a problem with the Palestinian suicide bombers, but perhaps Jews would be dying off in droves in N'Djamena from AIDS and the world would finally do something about the pandemic.
Comment Four:
If Israel wasn't here right now, I am sure the terrorist acts world wide would have been much less, people would be more devoting in developing new technological ideas and pioneering new skills, instead of thinking how to attack a target or just blow up a house near you the next day.
Why can't we just pause for 3 minutes world-wide and think of peace? All of us like peace, anyone reading this would know how it would feel like someone living happily with no worries that they might wake up the next day and find their families dead next to them... Although I know some people are living in such a matter, yet still some people are living by the risk every day. No matter neither how much I talk, nor whatever I say, if *you* don't feel the need to break down all abusive moves, and call for justice, the world shall stay as is... probably for the coming decades.
Get your thinking cap on and share your thoughts with the rest of DALnet. Next issue we'll be asking:
Recently a comet was discovered on course with earth that, if it hit, would spell the end of the human race. Now we know that in 2017 the comet will closely miss us. But, what if it was going to hit us?
Would countries fight amongst themselves until it hit? Would society become anarchy? Or would people have pulled together to fight the threat of extinction? Let us know by submitting your thoughts here
