Today marks the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th; the attacks on the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon and the loss of a plane in Philadelphia.
We at the Zine are not going to rehash the past, the facts are emblazoned into everyone's mind and there are a million and one sources of information on what is now the most documented event in human history. On a day like today, it is far better to spare a thought for those who lost their lives and for those who continue to live with that loss. It's also a good day to reflect on how we, on a personal level, can try to shape the future so such things don't happen again. How we can learn tolerance for other faiths and cultures and how we can use our own political voices to try and persuade our Governments to find lasting solutions to the world's problems. We can hope that September 11th taught us that killing in the name of religion is wrong, that blind revenge is wrong and that judging others' way of life by our own standards is wrong. All those things can only lead to constant strife and intolerance. So, if you are marking today with a minute's silence, use the time wisely because the greatest loss of September 11th 2001 would be if we learned nothing at all from it. If you have something you'd like to share with DALnet then submit your articles, feedback rants and raves HERE. Happy reading!Curve/Emma Chief Editor curve@dal.net |
