How can I get on DALnet?
At the moment most of DALnet's usual servers are down. We are bringing up temporary servers every now and then for testing purposes while we work to make our network more robust. If we are able to accept connections to these servers, we will work to distribute the server information via some of the places you can see under the Find Your Friends section.
What will happen to my nicknames and channels?
Since you can't get on to DALnet right now, we have stopped nicknames and channels expiring for the time being. This means that your nickname or channel will stay alive, even though you can't get on DALnet to identify.
I want to help, what can I do?
If you have any information about the attacks, please report it via our Attack Report Form.
If you have a server which you would like to link to DALnet, please refer to our Application Guidelines and contact a member of the Routing Team.
Who's attacking DALnet?
Unfortunately, as we are taking these attacks seriously and working with ISPs and law enforcement to apprehend the criminals doing them, we aren't able to give out information like this. We hope our users will understand that too much information may destroy on-going investigations and crush any hope we have of bringing these people to justice.
What is DALnet doing about this situation?
Right now we are working hard to come up with new ways to make the network more robust so that we can let open up our doors again to you. A lot of good ideas have come up, and many of them are being tested. Of course, we are also investigating the attacks and trying to apprehend the people responsible.
Is DALnet going to die?
No, DALnet is not going to die. That's not easy to believe when you can't get online and chat, but we hope everyone will understand that the best thing for us right now is to remain closed until we can put measures in place to keep our servers as safe as possible before we open our doors to chatters.
Does DALnet care that it's not the biggest IRC network now?
Quite frankly, no *grin*. Nobody can remain the biggest forever, and we're more than happy to have passed that baton to another network (well done QuakeNet!). From now on, we are focusing on providing a quality service, not necessarily a huge service.
How can I keep updated?
We will try and get information out to the places you see listed under Find Your Friends, as well as keep the main website updated at www.dal.net
