I find it quite depressing that I am writing a Letter From The Editor talking about attacks to our network again, yet here I am

Yes, as you all know, DALnet has been attacked again by criminals who, for reasons known only to themselves, choose to spoil the enjoyment of so many. These latest attacks are worse than any of the server administrators have seen before, attacks large enough to cripple the networks which host our servers, let alone the servers themselves.

So, again I find myself devoting another issue of the Zine to attacks. We have been flooded with questions about these attacks, and hopefully this issue will address all those questions DALnet staff have not been able to answer on a personal basis.

Before you start browsing this month's Zine, i'd ask you to keep your ears to the ground and report anything suspicious that you believe may be related to these attacks, to DALnet's Exploits Team via our Attack Report Form.

On a brighter note, as the attacks have left our Zine down for much of December, the Christmas Competition to win a $50 Amazon.com voucher has been extended to 31st January, so if you are suffering DALnet-withdrawals, why not enter and cheer yourself up a little!

Lastly, i'd like thank all the well-wishers who have sent messages of support via /msg and email, or that we've seen posted around the Internet. We've included some of them in this issue. As anyone who knows me will tell you, i'm not one generally given to 'schmaltz', but as I was typing this email and letting my MP3 player go through its list, an old song by Crowded House came on, and the chorus seemed so fitting that I thought i'd print it here:
