Best DALnet Moments IIIWe had some great entries for the Christmas Competition. Below we've picked out a small selection of the best for your enjoyment. Well done to all who entered, it's so great to know that DALnet has been the catalyst for so many special moments.
I have a lot to thank DALnet for. Not only has it allowed me to meet
wonderful people from my own as well as other countries, but it allowed
me to meet the most wonderful person in my life....my Kylie.
I took it upon himself to message her while she was in #Texas playing
trivia, thinking she was some 16 year old girl from Norway (according to
her IP). When in fact she was a 32 year old woman from California. I was
nice when I messaged her...just a simple "Hi" was all I said and we
ended up chatting all night long just from that simple gesture of hello.
We wound up talking every night and day on DALnet for about a month,
then I flew out to California to see her for the first time..after
realizing she wasn't some 16 year old from Norway of course. =p
2 Months later and 3 trips of me going out to California, we decided it
was time for her to make a trip to Texas, where I lived. She decided at
the last minute to load up her SUV and drive to Texas. That was the
longest 21 hours of my life! She had only planned on staying a week and
returning home...however my plans were different. When it came time for
her to leave....I proposed to her and she never left.
Here we are, 10 months later...happily married and living in Texas...all
thanks to DALnet!
In the past six years, there have been many 'dalnet
moments' for me. From the first time I wrote my own
popup (That got me akicked for weeks) to finding my
new wife of only 2 months. DalNet and IRC are both
addicting, and I have enjoyed both a great deal. But
I digress... I have a dalnet moment each time I help
someone else learn something about the mirc client
program, or teach them to register a nick, or identify
to nickserv to keep from being changed to guestxxxxx.
The biggest dalnet moment is when I am finished and
they leave the channel, they say "Thanx". It keeps me
coming back for more and more hours of helping others,
being abused by those who are rude and crude, and
enjoying my cyberlife on IRC. My thanks to dalnet for
furnishing a place where I can interact with so many
others, teach as well as learn, and have fun doing
what I like to do. ©Compiled by Curve/Emma curve@dal.net 2002 |
