Educating DALnet
by PJKevin

Quite recently we have been facing DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service Attacks)but we still stood up for DALnet (kudos to those who helped in combating the attacks.

In my opinion, people who launch these attacks are not aware of the consequences faced by network administrators and other users. THis may be because they do not know the code of ethics in IRC.

It never fails to surprise me to see the number of akills for mass advertising and clones and such on the network and yet even after these kills, they come back making the same mistake.

Education on IRC and DALnet can be a solution to help combat these problems since it is online education. Aiming on the IRC commands, code of ethics, DALnet AUP, Services and their usage and guided training for channel operators.

Being one year on DALnet, I personally see that there is a way we can make zero exploits through IRC and DALnet Education program. It involves the network admins and the Help Committee to come together to help make DALnet back to its original state when it first started.
