The Last Days of Man
by Curve

In the last days of man, 100 species became extinct every single day, but very few noticed and even fewer cared.

In the last days of man, God was on all sides and watched over indiscriminate killing as He watched everything else down the ages, impassive.

In the last days of man, we remembered that 'you are what you eat', and we were steroids, antibiotics and pesticides.

In the last days of man, murder and tragedy were buried beneath awards ceremonies, celebrity diets and kiss and tell.

In the last days of man, our medicines ceased working and we realised that evolution doesn't always work to our advantage.

In the last days of man, everyone consumed but nobody questioned.

In the last days of man, the rich locked themselves away in gilded cages and wondered why the poor were not meek.

In the last days of man, the waters rose, the sands spread and we watched it all from behind the wheel of a V8.

In the last days of man, the West owned the means of production, but forgot how to produce.

In the last days of man, life expectancy was 82 years, but most could not afford to live that long.

In the last days of man, nobody could remember their own identity, but everyone remembered their favourite brand.

In the last days of man, we learnt how to regret.
