Spectators
by Pagan999

eyes sightless, ears deafened, fingers stilled
by defect nay but by apathy consummate
actions untaken, deeds left eminently undone
egregious abuse left unchecked, duty slyly forsaken
concern guilefully feigned, duplicitous agents within
do we sail upon a derelict ship? bereft diligent and methodical intent?
a foe more expeditious, industrious and disciplined then we?
overtaken by a foul swarm, cannot surrender!
who shall defend our great nation? are we without succor?
hark! spirited knights rise to the call, the piddling few
defenders of the gates, they stand fast, defying odds grim
alas, how long may so small a number prevail?
are such efforts in vain? or made all the more noble?
reenforcements desperately needed, will the call go unheeded?
