email -- questions and comments
In the past couple of months, i've gotten more than the usual number
of email requests for help on various dalnet or irc-related subjects.
Although i try to answer each individually, I'll take this opportunity
to answer a few of them here, and tell you where to go to get help...
Pertinent DALnet Email Addresses: http://www.dal.net

now.. to answer a few email questions:
Question: " I am looking for a script or program that
will tell me the irc server with the lowest lag."
Response: Sorry, i don't know any script that does
this, although i'm certain they are out there. The simple way is
to use the command /privmsg statserv map, or whichever command your client
uses. Lag is measured by the amount of time it takes to send
data between servers, your lag from say, vancouver.dal.net to viper.dal.net
would most likely be different than the lag between vancouver.dal.net and
oahu.dal.net -- of course, we would hope there is none, we aim for perfection..
:)
[3:00 am] PrivMsg to statserv --> help map
[03:00] -StatServ- ***** StatServ Help *****
[03:00] -StatServ- Command - MAP
[03:00] -StatServ- Usage - MAP
[03:00] -StatServ-
[03:00] -StatServ- This command displays a topographic map
[03:00] -StatServ- of all servers currently linked to the
[03:00] -StatServ- network and their current lag to services.
[03:00] -StatServ-
[03:00] -StatServ- Example: /msg StatServ MAP
[03:00] -StatServ- ***** End of Help *****
question: "Does anyone know if/when telnet and java
will be fixed on dalnet?"
Response: http://www.dal.net/chat is now located
at http://www.dal.net/ so if
you're looking to chat via the java chat client please try the new
address.
And in answer to the big stack of emails i get asking how to get on
DALnet using Webtv... I don't know, folks, they don't
teach that in elf school, or editor school, and i don't use webtv.
We have a people using DALnet that have WebTV and if they can do it, i'm
sure you can do it too. I've checked the search engines and
come up with some web sites that hopefully will get you to DALnet.
I endorse none of these, don't know the authors, have no idea how good
or bad they may be, and they are in no way connected with DALnet. The last
i checked, all were still online. Now that i've said all of
that, best of luck!
